Listening to: Yirra Kurl by Xavier Rudd

My horoscope in this week's Xpress says:

Biologists say the speed of thought in the human brain is normally 150 miles per hour. But I'm guessing that in the coming weeks, ideas and intuitions will be zipping around your grey matter at a higher rate. It's even possible they'll break the sound barrier on a regular basis (761 miles per hour), meaning you may hear sonic booms coming from inside your skull. Don't be alarmed if this occurs; in fact, be excited. It's a sign that your intelligence is heating up, burning off tired old beliefs and outmoded theories in the process.

Let's hope so!

Article too good to be true.

Listening to: Delivering Idiots by Stabilo

Ahhh, Stabilo. How I've been watching you closely. More importantly, I've been listening to your heart beat this whole time...

It's been five years since introductions were made… and look at all that has changed.

When we met you had put out an indie EP album under the name Stabilo Boss, only to have the corporations stand up straight and take notice once you gained some publicity. So, Stabilo it is... I always thought you looked more like a solo Stabilo than a Boss…

A good friend at the time danced a jig in the middle of a media conglomerate's lobby to get us tickets for your very first appearance in Ottawa – a win-to-get-in only show at Zaphod Beeblebrox. This was all based on the potential we saw in your first single, Everybody. We had to special order your CD from Vancouver, and it was going to take a while to hear the rest of the tracks, but we both knew we were in love with the piano, the guitars, the vocals, the lyrics… everything.

The first show was stellar, as we knew it would be, an

d I know that for a fleeting moment I caught Chris' eye, which would prove to help later on…

A year or so later you made your triumphant return to Zaphod's and Chris caught my eye again. After Nathan lost his drumstick in the middle of the song and it fell to Chris's feet in front of the drum kit, Chris looked right at

me and kicked the stick to me. After the show I got the boys of Van-city to

autograph the drum stick, only to be confused by their attempt to sign

something in French – Foutré la maison? I'd have to look that up later…

This was the first show you had a piano/keyboard for in Ottawa and when Beautiful Madness began the room fell silent with adoration and anticipation.

A small, intimate show at Carleton's Oliver's Pub a year or so later saw me there alone… I thought it was going to be just me and the music, until another girl who was there alone decided we were now there together… Purchase of a t-shirt with the gremlin on it, posters from the halls and more autographs…

Another show a few years later at Barrymore's – James Bryan opening for you which was incredible – another fan was born in me that night. This time it was too big to catch anyone's eyes… There were some cover tunes for the first time, which the audience thoroughly enjoyed…

And then, in the spring of 2006, you were opening for the newly fronted INXS at Scotiabank Place… my, my, thelong way we've traveled in five short years! I might have been one of the very few in the entire stadium who was singing along to every word and dancing to the melodies… but soon enough my dear Stabilo, the world will know you like I do.

A return to Capital Music Hall in October soon… I cannot wait to sing along and lose myself to the music.

"So tonight, let's be as bold as we want to
And drink, drink 'til we fall down the steps
Remember how that made us laugh
Remember how all that we did was laugh, and cry"

- Kidding Ourselves - Stabilo -

Listening to: Sleep to Dream by Fiona Apple

It's been a while since I've written anything long and meaningful... but that will all change! I will have a little more time to update and write in the next week before the Run happens.

First -- an update on the Run! The Sparks St. event went well -- some students from Samuel Genest came to decorate the Ford Vehicle of Hope (official sponsor) which turned out really nice.

Some of the vendors on Sparks St. were super helpful and nice enough to organize special Think Pink sales and decorate their windows in honour of our events. Quichua International and Smithbooks both went out of their way to fundraise, which was much appreciated!

Our team at work held bake sales and a raffle with great prizes this week and we raised about $1800 for the team. Watch our progress and donate (to me!) here. I managed to get some prizes for the draw and also baked some Cupcakes for the Cure!

We had a fashion show at Place D'Orleans which was really successful. We had survivors model the clothing given to us by sponsors at the Running Room and at Nygard and you could tell how much fun they were having. Sandra and Boyle from KISS FM (another sponsor) were the MCs and they were great! Oddly enough, after painting my toenails with a pink ribbon I slipped on a coffee spill and smashed my toe- scraping off one of the ribbons! For those of you who know about my little biking accident and the piece of glass in the foot -- yes, it was the same toe/foot!

Also, I've raised about $190 so far, just a tad short of my new goal of $300. Hint, hint, nudge, wink, wink.

Alright, enough about the run for now. I have no more run-related activities until the day of -- when I'll be handling media kits and other such activities at Major's Hill Park.

Let me tell you how amazingly good Half Nelson is. Watch the trailer here. I can't say enough good things about Ryan Gosling. It's funny to see him go from Breaker High to this role... but he does it brilliantly. The themes in this movie are really smart, and it's interesting to watch Ryan's character, Dan, live through his own hypocrisy and fight with himself and his desires. Neither the person I went to see this with, nor myself, could figure out exactly how the title relates, so maybe someone can fill me in when they see it.

Started regular yoga again at thy gym at work. Friday's classes are taught by this beautiful soul whom I love so much! She's adorable, and her technique is so gentle. She always reminds us to not be so serious and to smile, which I like. It's a hatha yoga class, which is a combination of styles including meditation and chanting. [Nearly all yoga styles are rooted in hatha yoga, yoga’s physical discipline that focuses on developing control of the body through asanas or poses. In Sanskrit, ha represents sun and tha represents moon. Hatha represents the duality in life — yin and yang, masculine and feminine, darkness and light. It leads the way to balancing these opposing forces. It is the yoga of physical well-being.]

There's another class on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays taught by another teacher in the style of ashtanga. [For those who want a serious workout, ashtanga yoga offers a fast-paced series of sequential poses beginning with sun salutations. Students move from one posture to another in a continual flow and link movements to breath. This physically demanding yoga was developed by K. Pattabhi Jois to build strength, flexibility, and stamina.]

It feels really good, physically and spiritually. I honestly feel like I'm in a better mood after class (especially the Friday class.) I feel better about my body and health, and am learning to embrace the ideals of the yoga philosophy. Being mindful, positive, focusing inwards and the various breathing techniques all help to be a better person.

In the same vein, I'm throroughly enjoying ascent magazine. There are some really good articles, and it's Canadian! :)

Commission for Africa: Our Common Interest by Bob Geldof
Take a Walk on the Dark Side: ROck and Roll Myths, Legends and Curses by R. Gary Patterson
Weapons of Mass Deception: The Uses of Propaganda in Bush's War on Iraq by Sheldon Rampton and John Stauber (the same guys who did the book that I have the youtube promo for a couple posts down: "The Best War Ever!")

I finally bought the Tegan and Sara DVD! It's great, but I haven't watched a lot of the concert part yet. The interviews and videos show the two sisters fighting which I like that they show.

We also bought the U2 DVD for the Zoo TV tour.... it's so good.

I'm excited because tomorrow I buy tickets to go see Stuart McLean of The Vinyl Cafe at the National Arts Centre. His shows are so brilliant and warming and Canadian. : D

Good article.

Theo told me to write about how much I love him. So here goes: I love him very, very, very much.

Alright. Enough already.

By the way: When my posts have the three coloured dots before the number of the entry, that means it's a link. :)

Listening to: Living Room by Tegan and Sara

I wanted to just share with you all some adorable photos of my dear Toby, named for Toby Ziegler from West Wing.

This is the first picture Anick sent us of Toby (she's whom we got him from) I thought it was adorable -- like he was saying "Hi! Pick me!"

Adorable kitty! These are the moments when it's
difficult to hate him for scratching up the mattress
or jumping and biting you in the middle of the night.

This picture I find adorable as well (noticing a trend?) My two favorite boys having a nap :)

Moi et mon Toby! Le petit minou...

Toby loves boxes...

And bags...

And the sink....

And drawers...

Alright, that's enough cat pictures for a while. But, just to make sure we're all on the same page... I still miss my puppy!!

Listening to: Mushaboom by Feist

First off let me say how obsessed I am with Feist right now! This song you may recognize from the Lacoste commercial with the guy jumping around on rocks and a dockside... I didn't realize it was our dear Canadian Feist until it came on in my iTunes (I had downloaded it a long time ago when Marie-Andree from work mentioned her love of everything Feist, but had never listened to it.) She reminds me of this beautiful blend of Sarah Slean (performing at the GG's awards), Fiona Apple (weird video!), and Chantal Kreviazuk (when I first met Theo, CK was warming up on the Hill for Canada Day and he convinced me she was his wife!) and a twist of her own roots in there. I found this funny picture on her myspace page too: http://dl3.glitter-graphics.net/pub/33/33928tg214mae99.gif

Alright, moving on. I finally saw Crash last night. WOW. What a incredibly spectacular movie. The subject matter is so relevant, yet rarely spoken of, especially in the U.S. Of course, I cried -- don't I always cry at movies? It's incredible though, because in the end it makes you believe that people can be good despite their cynicism and surface hatred. If you haven't seen this yet you have got to rent it!!

Another movie that you've got to rent is Garden State. If only for the great soundtrack that comes along (Frou Frou - Let Go, Coldplay - Don't Panic, The Shins - Caring is Creepy...) If you go here and scroll down a bit you can listen to clips.) Sometime after I've seen it again I'll write more about it.

Here's a chill Web site Theo showed me: Banksy. Nice social commentary there. My faves are from the West Bank: here, here, here, and here. Also, go here and check out the Brooklyn film (check out all of them!)

Alright, that entry took me three days to put together in between movies, going out and everything else so I apologise for the randomness.

Send me ideas, music, and cool sites.

Listening to: Last Train Home by the Lost Prophets

Alright, time for an update. Since I last wrote, a lot has been happening. Theo
and I went to a kick-ass corn roast at Richard and Renee's place in Cumberland. Lots of people camped out over night on their 8 acre lot, but we went home late instead. There were tons of people from Kapuskasing and Moonbeam, a massive bonfire and the best corn I've ever had. There was a
band playing and music all day/night. Oh, and a lot of alcohol. And the requisite mullet.
It was so relaxed and fun, the weather was great, the fire was awesome, the food, the people. Good times!

I've been working on lots of stuff for the run this week, as next Thursday and Friday (September 7 and 8), we're "pinking" out Sparks St. Sparks will be decorated in pink ribbons and banners, merchants along Sparks will be holding promotions, fundraisers and decorating their windows. My job has been to organize much of it, talking to the various merchants, working with the communications and volunteer teams to have tables, raffles, decorations etc… It's been a lot of work, but I hope it will pay off. There is also the
Second Cup day on September 14 th where some of the proceeds from sales will go to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. September 16th if you're in Orleans come see the Nygard/Running Room Fashion Show at 1pm at Place D'Orleans. We're also working on BBQ's around the city the weekends after that….

If you haven't sponsored me yet – please do! Every little bit helps! :)

I went to have the always yummy dessert at Moxie's with Christine. Just look at the description for the Mocha Khalua Cheesecake: Bavarian cream, Khalua, Philidelphia cream cheese and rich dark chocolate folded together to create the ultimate cheesecake/ Topped with white chocolate shavings and warm chocolate sauce. I have already decided what I'm going to have when I go there for my (belated) birthday dinner. The warm mosaic dip for an app, the steak for dinner, and the Khalus cheesecake for dessert if there's room. Oh, I'm hungry already!!

I went to see An Inconvenient Truth (for the second time) with a friend from school whom I hadn't seen since 3 rd year! (Despite the fact that we've been working next door to each other since February!) For those of you who haven't seen An Inconvenient Truth – you should. It dispels the myth that global warming is a theory, it shows you the easy things you can do to change little things bit by bit that have a huge impact on our environment. www.climatecrisis.net

Last night Dan, Teresa, Theo and I went to see Who Killed the Electric Car? It was another documentary to hit hard. It makes you really think about how the choices we make have a big impact, and that the big companies, gas, oil, car companies and the governments can really put a damper on things. I also think that people need to take more responsibility for their choices and take the extra time to go research the car they're buying, or take public transportation or car pool or other methods as much as possible. There are people, such as those at Plug-in America, who are trying to do good things and help everyone realize we need to change our consumer habits.

Today I went down to Sparks again for more organizing, tonight I'm going to take it easy, maybe finally watch Crash… and tomorrow we go buy curtains!
